Symposium Debating Digital Dominance: 26 January 2026, 13:30–17:00

08-Dec-2025

Should the Dutch government develop its own cloud? Can a university still operate without Microsoft? What can someone do to keep control over personal data? How can business contribute to a transition toward digital autonomy? Can we apply AI at scale on the basis of our own LLMs?

The public debate on Digital Autonomy places such questions at the center. This is why Utrecht University and the University of Amsterdam organize a symposium on this topic, with the theme of the role of the university in digital autonomy. With speakers such as José van Dijck and Albert Meijer it promises to be an engaging session.

The symposium Debating Digital Dominance takes place on the occasion of the defense of Paul van Vulpen. His dissertation can be found here, and the defense begins at 10:15.

The symposium takes place on Monday 26 January 2026 at 13:30 in the Academy Building.
