Working Group: Education

Many members develop, teach, and revise courses in Software Engineering for their universities on a regular basis. Educating our students in core software engineering principles is most important for addressing the urgent societal need for people with expertise in developing high-quality software.

The goal of this working group is to explore how software engineering education can be improved across all levels. We start by making an inventory of CS curricula across the country, focusing on the software engineering parts. From this overview similarities and differences can be compiled, and collaboration at the course level can be fostered (e.g. by sharing best practices in software engineering education).

Statements

The Education WG is made up of passionate educators who are eager to share their views and experiences with others. If you would like to get a better sense of our group’s perspectives, we encourage you to read through the statements from our members.

My research interests are functional programming languages in education, and advanced software technology concepts to support teaching and learning. My goal for this workgroup is to share best-practices and experiences for improving software engineering education in the Netherlands.

Bastiaan Heeren, Open Universiteit

I am to implement my vision on education based on university-industry collaboration with LUdev and on a national level.

Alfons Laarman, Universiteit Leiden

I am interested in software analysis and transformation which improve software quality and comprehension, and often focus on software languages, design and modelling aspects.

Vadim Zaytsev, Universiteit Twente

Making programming more accessible to deal with for end users, novice programmers, inexperienced students, and people with disabilities are what I am passionate about.

Mazyar Seraj, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven

As we are increasingly reliant on software, the theories, techniques and tools for its engineering should become a key competence for graduates in computing sciences and beyond. I find this working group an excellent way for pushing software engineering education to the next level.

Fabiano Dalpiaz, Universiteit Utrecht

My objective is to implement a national-wide, shared infrastructure to join excellence in the academic provision with cutting-edge industrial collaborations, in the context of Software Engineering.
