NWO Diversity & Inclusion Initiative Award 2025 for Alice & Eve

Alice & Eve, a celebration of women in computing, has won the prestigious NWO Diversity & Inclusion Initiative Award 2025. Alice & Eve’s motto is show, don’t tell: the initiative demonstrates how extensive and multifaceted the contributions of women in computing truly are. According to the NWO jury, Alice & Eve has an “extraordinary impact on its participants” and places strong emphasis not only on gender diversity but also on geographical diversity. The jury describes the initiative as “sustainable, impactful and future-proof.”

Alice & Eve started as a collaboration between (mostly) software engineering researchers from Twente (Marieke Huisman, Sophie Lathouwers, Alma Schaafstal and Mariëlle Stoelinga), Delft (Cynthia Liem) and Eindhoven (Alexander Serebrenik). Today, however, it involves researchers from different areas of computer science and from different universities. The most recent Alice & Eve event took place in Groningen — organized by Dimka Karastoyanova, Kerstin Bunte, Raffaella Carloni, Ayushi Rastogi, and Jiapan Guo — and attracted more than 150 participants!
