UU: Two Assistant Professors in Software Engineering for AI or Software Production

We are looking for two motivated, inspiring and friendly Assistant Professors to join the Software Production group external link, which is part of the Software Division in the Department of Information and Computing Sciences external link of Utrecht University external link. The group is renowned for its empirical research that is made possible thanks to a wide network of industrial collaborators in the area of large-scale product software. The group has solid research lines in various sub-fields of software production, including requirements engineering, software ecosystems, software for responsible organisations, and software architecture for AI-driven systems. In addition to defining your research line within the Software Production group, you will actively contribute to educational activities. You are willing to teach existing courses offered by the department (for an overview, see the page external link of the department of Information and Computing Sciences), supervise students’ research projects and, if appropriate and necessary, develop new courses and course components.

There are two openings in two sub-fields of software production.

Software Engineering for AI In this position, you will develop a research line within Software Engineering for AI, also known as AI Engineering. You should focus on how to adapt software development for AI-based systems, possibly with emphasis on specific phases or activities in the development lifecycle. Within the context of software engineering for AI-based systems, you may specialise into requirements engineering; software architecture; development processes; continuous deployment and cloud operations; compliance with norms; AI-driven engineering; production of large-scale AI systems; human values and ethical aspects.

Software Production You are willing to conduct research in the broad context of software production: all the activities that pertain to the creation and evolution of software products. You should complement the groups research with a focus on one or more themes, such as requirements engineering; software design and architecting; software product management; deployment and operations; software business; software ecosystems; maintenance and evolution.
